Fixins Soul Kitchen is a full service soul food restaurant that celebrates the history and traditions of African American culture in an inclusive environment that is welcoming to everyone. It is bold, inviting, and serves authentic food in the historic Oak Park neighborhood in Sacramento. This is one of our favorite types of clients to work for — one who isn’t afraid to be unique, and who is just starting out but understands the importance of kicking off a new business with a solid brand.
Designing a complex menu system for a fast-casual restaurant was one of the first big hurdles — the menu is large and you order at the counter off of a large menu board. The menu board is modular so that certain boards can be removed and replaced throughout the week (like for brunch on the weekends). Two TVs are also flush mounted into the menu and display different items, specials, drinks, and other information and they change depending on the time of day — lunch specials for lunch, late-night food in the evening etc.
Apparel and merchandise is so useful to any brand — it is walking advertising and can even be supplemental income. We came up with several design that play off the soul food theme, and the Sacramento neighborhood. All 8 of the shirt designs SOLD OUT in the first few weeks — before they even had their grand opening!
